Roblox Corporation (NYSE: RBLX) has launched Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts worldwide, following a limited rollout last month in Australia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.
The two account types are designed for users under 16 and are assigned automatically based on the platform's age-check systems. Roblox Kids accounts, for ages 5–8, include the platform's default protections and restrict access to games with Minimal or Mild content maturity labels, with chat turned off by default. Roblox Select accounts, for ages 9–15, allow access to games rated up to Moderate, with chat settings that vary by age and region.
Users automatically transition between account types as they age, moving from Roblox Kids to Roblox Select at age 9, and from Roblox Select to a standard Roblox account at age 16. Users who have not completed an age check will not be able to access standard Roblox accounts or chat features.
The rollout also expands parental controls, extending certain tools until a child turns 16, including granular game blocking and direct chat management. A new game approval feature allows parents to grant access to specific games outside a child's default account settings.
Roblox said it will also stop allowing users under 16 to share or view social media links on user profiles, game detail pages, Community pages, or the Creator Hub later this month.
Later this year, the company said it plans to begin transitioning to the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) framework for content ratings.
"Children's needs change significantly as they grow, and online experiences should adapt alongside them," said Matt Kaufman, Chief Safety Officer at Roblox.
