Ernexa Therapeutics (NASDAQ: ERNA) participated in a virtual investor segment featuring Dr. Ira Winer, a scientific advisory board member and gynecologic oncologist, to discuss ovarian cancer treatment challenges and the company's ERNA-101 therapy approach.
During the discussion, Dr. Winer addressed the unmet medical need in ovarian cancer treatment, particularly the challenge of immunologically "cold" tumors that resist many immune-based therapies. The segment explored how engineered cell therapies might address manufacturing scalability and patient accessibility issues in oncology treatment.
The discussion covered Ernexa's ERNA-101 program, which uses an engineered IL-7/IL-15 fusokine-iMSC platform designed to activate immune responses within tumor environments. Dr. Winer highlighted the therapy's dual mechanism approach, including tumor microenvironment remodeling and immune activation capabilities.
"Ovarian cancer remains one of the most challenging solid tumors to treat, particularly as patients progress through later lines of therapy and face increasingly limited treatment options," said Dr. Winer. "There continues to be a significant need for innovative approaches capable of addressing the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment that characterizes many ovarian cancers."
Ernexa develops cell therapies using engineered induced pluripotent stem cells transformed into induced mesenchymal stem cells. The company's allogeneic synthetic iMSCs are designed as scalable, off-the-shelf treatments that do not require patient-specific cell harvesting.
ERNA-101 represents the company's lead cell therapy product for cancer treatment, while ERNA-201 targets autoimmune diseases. The company currently focuses on developing ERNA-101 for ovarian cancer treatment.
The information was provided through a company press release statement.
