Aeva Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: AEVA) announced that SICK, a sensor-based automation solutions provider, is incorporating Aeva's Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology into its industrial sensing product portfolio.
SICK has introduced its first sensor powered by Aeva's FMCW technology for industrial measurement applications. The technology combines silicon-integrated photonics and signal processing to provide distance and velocity measurements at long ranges, including on metallic surfaces that challenge conventional optical sensing technologies.
According to the companies, FMCW sensing operates without interference from ambient light, eliminates sensor-to-sensor interference, functions on hot surfaces, and measures both velocity and distance. These capabilities differ from conventional time-of-flight and triangulation approaches used in industrial automation.
"Our technology partnership with Aeva is a key step toward advancing FMCW-based distance measurement for industrial applications," said Dr. Florian Schneider, Senior Vice President of R&D Industrial Sensing at SICK. "By uniting Aeva's leadership in FMCW technology with our extensive expertise in high-performance automation, we are pushing the boundaries of what is technically possible."
Mina Rezk, Co-founder and CTO at Aeva, stated that "FMCW sensing opens up new possibilities for industrial automation by enabling highly accurate measurements in conditions where conventional optical sensing technologies often struggle."
The collaboration represents Aeva's expansion beyond automotive applications into industrial automation markets. Aeva develops lidar-on-chip technology and perception systems for automated driving, manufacturing automation, smart infrastructure, robotics and consumer devices.
Information is based on a press release statement from Aeva Technologies.
