AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AMC) reported 25.5 million guests attended its theaters in May 2026, marking the company's highest May attendance since 2019 both domestically and globally.
The theater chain welcomed more than 4.2 million moviegoers to its U.S. AMC Theatres and international ODEON Cinemas locations during the weekend of May 28-31. The company said this continues a pattern of strong box office performance throughout 2026.
Six films have opened to more than $75 million domestically in their opening weekends over the past 10 weeks, according to the company. The latest, "BACKROOMS," opened with a reported $81 million domestic box office. Other films that exceeded $75 million in opening weekends since March 20 include "The Mandalorian and Grogu," "The Devil Wears Prada 2," "Michael," "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," and "Project Hail Mary."
"Week after week in 2026, it's been clear that as Hollywood has been releasing well-made and well-marketed movies, moviegoers have been pouring out in droves to enjoy the incomparable magic of the big screen experience that we offer in our theatres," said AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron.
The company operates approximately 855 theaters with 9,640 screens globally, positioning it as what it describes as the largest movie exhibition company in the United States, Europe, and worldwide.
AMC cited upcoming releases including "Scary Movie," "Masters of the Universe," "Toy Story 5," and "Supergirl" as films expected to draw audiences in coming weeks.
