Virax Biolabs reports early trial data for long COVID test

Virax Biolabs Group Limited (NASDAQ: VRAX) announced early clinical data for its blood-based test ViraxImmune, designed to detect long COVID and related post-acute infection syndromes. The pilot data showed 88% specificity and 92% positive predictive value in distinguishing between patients with post-acute infection syndromes and healthy controls.

The company has evaluated ViraxImmune in more than 120 subjects in its ongoing UK clinical study examining long COVID, myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, and related conditions. Virax plans to begin a larger clinical validation analysis involving 300 additional participants in the fourth quarter of 2026, with results expected in the first quarter of 2027.

Based on CDC estimates and other public health sources, Virax estimates up to 21 million adults in the United States may be living with long COVID and related conditions, with approximately 2.5 million new cases annually.

"These early pilot data mark an important step in the development of ViraxImmune as a potential objective immune-profiling test," said James Foster, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Virax Biolabs.

The company plans to pursue an initial US market entry strategy through a Laboratory Developed Test route for post-acute infection syndromes, with broader in vitro diagnostic development planned over time. ViraxImmune is currently in development and has not been approved for diagnostic use in any jurisdiction.
