Quantum Cyber files provisional patent for drone defense system

Quantum Cyber N.V. (NASDAQ: QUCY) filed a provisional patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its Quantum Drone Autonomous System on May 19, 2026. The application, assigned USPTO Application No. 64/069,586, covers a multi-layer architecture for autonomous ground vehicles that combines quantum-sensor navigation, sentinel drone protocols, and swarm defense capabilities.

The system centers on a Quantum Sensing Navigation Core aboard a sentinel drone that incorporates quantum magnetometer and quantum inertial navigation technology to provide GPS-independent positioning data. The technology transmits position reference data to autonomous ground vehicles and up to 12 subordinate interceptor micro-drones simultaneously.

The patent application describes a Two-Sentinel Continuous Coverage System that enables rotation between sentinel drones to maintain continuous airborne navigation coverage. The system includes 12 dual-role micro-drones deployed from the ground vehicle: six anti-air interceptors and six anti-ground munitions, coordinated through the quantum navigation system.

"The filing of the QDAS provisional patent marks a significant step in building the technology foundation of Quantum Cyber's System-of-Systems platform," said David Lazar, Chief Executive Officer of Quantum Cyber. The company stated that the Pentagon is seeking over $55 billion for drone and autonomous warfare capabilities in its fiscal year 2027 budget request.

Peter O'Rourke, independent director of Quantum Cyber and former Acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, said the technology addresses the need for "solutions aimed at reducing dependence on vulnerable systems while strengthening operational continuity."

The West Palm Beach, Florida-based company describes itself as developing an AI-powered autonomous defense platform that integrates drone warfare, counter-unmanned aircraft systems, and other defense technologies. The filing of a provisional patent application does not guarantee issuance of a patent.
