Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ: PANW) announced the launch of Idira, an identity security platform designed to manage human, machine and AI identities within enterprises. The platform is available immediately with additional features planned for later this year.
The company states that machine and AI identities now outnumber human identities 109 to 1, and reports that 61% of privileged access requests are fulfilled with standing privileges rather than on-demand access. According to Palo Alto Networks, 90% of organizations experienced an identity-related breach in the past year.
Idira offers three core functions: discovering identity risks through AI-powered analysis, controlling privileges through zero standing privilege policies, and automating governance through AI-driven policy management. The platform extends dynamic privilege controls across all identity types rather than limiting access management to select users.
"Identity has become the new battleground of the AI enterprise," said Peretz Regev, Chief Product and Technology Officer for Idira at Palo Alto Networks. "With adversaries now logging in rather than breaking in, every identity has become a target."
Existing CyberArk customers can access different levels of Idira functionality based on their current service tier. Traditional PAM customers will receive automatic discovery and user experience improvements, while Modern PAM customers can immediately access zero standing privilege features at no additional cost.
The platform incorporates capabilities from Palo Alto Networks' acquisition of CyberArk assets, combining privileged access management with machine identity security features. Will Townsend, Chief Analyst at LoneStar Advisory & Research, noted that "the enterprise has become a sprawling mesh of human, machine, and agentic identities."
