Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) announced the purchase of OLED deposition equipment to establish full-scale OLED microdisplay manufacturing at its Westborough, Massachusetts facility. The investment represents a shift from the company's previous fabless production model to meet increasing demand for domestically produced OLED devices for U.S. defense applications.
The equipment will support production of OLED microdisplays for FPV systems, thermal weapon sights, and other defense applications that require U.S.-manufactured components. Kopin will continue using Asian manufacturing partners for consumer and medical applications without domestic production requirements and European partners for NATO-aligned defense programs.
"Adding OLED manufacturing capability to our Westborough facility strengthens our ability to support urgent defense needs while improving our control over quality, lead times, and pricing," said Michael Murray, Chief Executive Officer.
The company operates domestic manufacturing capabilities for LCD, OLED, and MicroLED technologies, supported in part by its IBAS program award from the U.S. Department of Defense. Kopin provides microdisplays and optical systems for defense, training, enterprise, industrial, consumer and medical applications.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
