Polyrizon submits amended claims for US intranasal drug delivery patent

Polyrizon Ltd. (NASDAQ: PLRZ) submitted amended claims for its U.S. patent application covering its intranasal drug delivery platform, the Israel-based biotech company announced.

The amended claims expand protection beyond the core mucoadhesive composition to include drug delivery systems and methods of use. The technology uses sulfated polysaccharide polymers and additional polymeric components that form a uniform film upon contact with epithelial mucosa for delivering active pharmaceutical ingredients.

The platform is designed to increase medication residence time and ensure contact with mucosal tissues. The technology aims to enhance drug absorption through prolonged retention and improved interaction with mucosal surfaces.

"The submission of amended claims in our U.S. patent application represents another important step in strengthening our intellectual property protection," said Tomer Izraeli, chief executive of Polyrizon. "We believe that expanding the scope of protection to include drug delivery systems and methods of use enhances the value and potential applicability of our platform across a broad range of therapeutic areas."

The company's platform uses intranasal delivery for both local and systemic drug administration. Polyrizon specializes in developing medical device hydrogels delivered as nasal sprays that form barriers in the nasal cavity.

The company's technology includes its Capture and Contain hydrogel technology and its Trap and Target system, which focuses on nasal delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients and is in pre-clinical development.
