Momentus Inc. (NASDAQ: MNTS) completed a preliminary design review for its Vigoride 8 mission, scheduled to launch in early 2027. The mission will carry the Spaceworks COSMIC payload and NASA's Juno Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine payload.
A preliminary design review verifies that a mission's proposed design meets requirements and is technically sound for detailed development. The review keeps the mission on schedule for its planned launch date, according to the company's announcement.
The work is being conducted under two contracts Momentus signed with NASA. The San Jose, California-based company specializes in satellite technology, space transportation, and in-orbit services.
"The successful completion of the Preliminary Design Review reflects the strength of our engineering team and the close collaboration with our customers," said Tom Malko, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Operations at Momentus. "Vigoride 8 is a complex, fully booked mission, and this milestone confirms that our design is sound and ready to advance into detailed development."
The company stated that the mission is fully booked, indicating customer demand for its in-space transportation services. Momentus plans to conduct a Critical Design Review in late May 2026 as the next major milestone.
The company has invested in expanded infrastructure, including a new facility used for the review, to support higher mission throughput, according to the announcement.
