Tigo Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: TYGO) announced the availability of Inverter Power Output Control (IPOC) for its 3.8kW EI Inverter, designed for smaller residential solar system upgrades. The feature allows installers to adjust AC output during commissioning to align with original system specifications or utility requirements without requiring re-permitting or electrical panel modifications.
The company stated that approximately 400,000 U.S. residential solar systems are now more than a decade old, with many early systems falling within the 3-4 kW range. The IPOC capability enables installers to upgrade legacy systems while maintaining original system ratings and avoiding costly permitting or electrical upgrades.
The 3.8kW inverter joins Tigo's existing 7.6kW and 11.4kW EI Inverters that already feature IPOC capability. The inverter supports both standalone solar and solar-plus-storage configurations, allowing homeowners to add battery backup during upgrades.
"We're seeing strong demand for cost-effective repowering solutions in the Midwest, especially for smaller, early-generation systems that are starting to experience inverter failures," said Mike Skala, vice president of operations at SunSystem Technology.
IPOC settings are configured through the Tigo EI App during commissioning and logged for inspection verification. The company stated this helps streamline documentation for authorities and reduces project delays.
Tigo will present its repowering solutions at the Zonna Solar Conference on April 21-22, 2026, in Berlin, Ohio. The presentation will demonstrate how Tigo optimizers paired with DC-coupled hybrid inverters and modular battery storage can create repowering pathways for aging solar systems.
The announcement comes as installers in the Midwest increasingly service first-generation residential systems, according to the press release.
