The American Academy of Dermatology granted a strong recommendation for Organon's (NYSE: OGN) VTAMA cream in its 2026 guidelines for pediatric atopic dermatitis treatment, the company announced.
The guidelines identify VTAMA cream as the only steroid-free topical treatment supported by high certainty evidence for children aged 2 years and older with atopic dermatitis across all disease severities. The 2026 AAD pediatric atopic dermatitis guidelines represent the first pediatric-specific recommendations issued by the organization.
VTAMA cream is a topical aryl hydrocarbon receptor agonist that received FDA approval for atopic dermatitis treatment in adults and pediatric patients aged 2 years and older in December 2024. The drug was initially approved for plaque psoriasis treatment in adults in May 2022.
In pivotal studies for atopic dermatitis, the most common adverse reactions included upper respiratory tract infection, folliculitis, lower respiratory tract infection, headache, asthma, vomiting, ear infection, pain in extremity, and abdominal pain.
The AAD recommendation was supported by evidence from Phase 3 trials ADORING 1 and ADORING 2. Atopic dermatitis affects nearly 10 million children in the United States, according to the press release.
"The strong recommendation by the AAD for VTAMA cream was supported by robust evidence from the Phase 3 pivotal trials," said Rafael Chaves Cardona, Head of US Medical Affairs at Organon.
The treatment requires once-daily dosing and has no label restrictions based on disease severity, affected body surface area, or duration of use.
