Spire Global Inc. (NYSE: SPIR) announced an expanded agriculture intelligence offering that combines soil moisture data with weather forecasting capabilities. The satellite data provider said the solution integrates more than 40 years of historical records with daily satellite observations and forecasts extending up to 45 days.
The Vienna, Virginia-based company's offering uses its Global Navigation Satellite System radio occultation and reflectometry data to provide near real-time global soil moisture observations. The system can identify early signs of crop stress up to a week before visible canopy damage occurs, according to the company.
The solution includes site-specific soil moisture and weather forecasts up to 45 days ahead and AI-based sub-seasonal forecasts providing visibility up to six weeks in advance. Spire delivers the service through an application programming interface, allowing digital farming platforms, insurers, agribusinesses and government agencies to integrate the data into their operations.
"Climate volatility is increasing agricultural and economic risk, while much of the environmental data infrastructure supporting the industry remains fragmented and hardware-dependent," said Shawn Mechelke, General Manager of Weather, Climate and Aviation at Spire. "Timely, globally consistent insight is essential for modern agronomic decision-making."
The integrated solution aims to enable earlier detection of crop stress, more efficient irrigation timing and improved crop yield modeling. Spire operates a satellite constellation that provides weather intelligence, ship and plane movement tracking, and detection services for spoofing and jamming.
The information is based on a company press release.
