Applied Optoelectronics Inc. (NASDAQ: AAOI) announced it received a $71 million order for 800G single-mode data center transceivers from a major hyperscale customer. The company said this brings total orders from this customer to $124 million since mid-March.
The Sugar Land, Texas-based optical networking products manufacturer said the combined orders will more than double its existing backlog from this customer. Applied Optoelectronics expects to begin delivering both the initial order of more than $53 million and the additional $71 million order in the second quarter following product qualification.
"This increased order for our 800G transceivers reflects both the customer's confidence in AOI and the growing demand for 800G optics," said Dr. Thompson Lin, founder, chairman, and CEO of Applied Optoelectronics.
The company anticipates completing delivery of the initial order in the third quarter and the new order by the end of 2026. Applied Optoelectronics also said it recently shipped the first 10,000 units of an 800G single-mode transceiver order to another hyperscale datacenter customer.
Applied Optoelectronics develops and manufactures optical and HFC networking products for AI datacenters, CATV and broadband fiber access networks. The company operates research and development facilities in Atlanta, Georgia, and engineering and manufacturing facilities in Sugar Land, Texas, as well as in Taipei, Taiwan and Ningbo, China.
The information was disclosed in a company press release.
