Investing.com -- Sony announced on Friday that it will increase prices for its PlayStation 5 console lineup starting in April, marking the second price hike in less than a year. The company cited pressures in the global economic landscape as the reason for the adjustment.
In the United States, the PS5 disc edition will rise to $649.99 from $549.99, representing a $100 increase. The digital edition will also increase by $100 to $599.99. The PS5 Pro, the most powerful version of the console, will see a $150 price increase to $899.99.
The price increases will take effect on April 2.
Sony stated in a blog post that it recognizes price changes affect its community. The company said that after careful evaluation, it determined the step was necessary to continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.
Sony previously raised console prices globally last year amid high inflation and uncertainty related to U.S. tariffs. The company is currently facing a surge in memory chip prices.
The price adjustments will also apply to other markets. In the United Kingdom, each PS5 model will increase by £90, approximately $120. Sony will also implement price increases in Japan and Europe.
