Verana Health announced a partnership with Guardant Health Inc. (NASDAQ: GH) to combine electronic health record data with genomic testing information for biopharmaceutical research and therapy development.
The collaboration will provide researchers access to Verana's curated datasets from medical societies and medical centers alongside Guardant's clinicogenomic testing data. The combined resources aim to help scientists study correlations between molecular biomarkers, treatment decisions and clinical outcomes.
According to the companies, the partnership will focus on oncology applications, particularly in urology for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer patients. Researchers will be able to analyze genomic profiles with real-world patient outcomes to guide targeted therapy development.
"Clinicogenomic data empowers research scientists to test hypotheses by studying patient genomic profiles and real-world outcomes to guide the development of targeted therapies that can be used to personalize treatment for each cancer patient," said Sujay Jadhav, CEO of Verana Health.
Craig Eagle, Guardant Health's chief medical officer, stated the partnership "will expedite the discovery of new biomarker-based therapies for patients and make the drug development process more economical."
The collaboration expands Verana Health's data coverage into solid tumors including lung, breast and colorectal cancers. Guardant's datasets cover various disease stages from initial tumor profiling to therapy response monitoring, while Verana tracks patient care journeys across academic and community settings.
Verana Health recently merged with COTA to expand its oncology data offerings. The combined company serves 17 of the top 20 global biopharmaceutical companies and has access to over 95 million patients through more than 20,000 contributing clinicians.
