Zoox and Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) announced a partnership to deploy Zoox robotaxis on the Uber platform, according to a press release from the companies.
The partnership will launch in Las Vegas this summer, with Los Angeles deployment planned for mid-2027. Uber riders will be able to access Zoox robotaxis through the Uber app on eligible trips. Zoox will maintain its own app service in both cities alongside the Uber partnership.
This marks the first time Zoox has partnered with a third-party platform. The company's vehicles are purpose-built robotaxis rather than retrofitted passenger cars, designed specifically for ride-hailing services.
"We are excited to partner with Uber, a company that shares our vision for transforming mobility," said Aicha Evans, CEO of Zoox. "This partnership is an opportunity to continue advancing the use of autonomous mobility in daily life."
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi described the Zoox robotaxi as "unlike any other vehicle on the planet" and cited the company's safety commitment and autonomous driving technology as factors in the partnership decision.
Zoox, based in Foster City, California, operates as an independent subsidiary of Amazon.com Inc. The company focuses on autonomous ride-hailing services using purpose-built vehicles designed for urban mobility.
Uber, founded in 2010, operates a platform for ride-hailing and delivery services. The company reports having facilitated more than 72 billion trips since its inception.
