Matthews International Corporation (NASDAQ: MATW) received a favorable arbitration decision on February 13 regarding its right to sell dry battery electrode equipment, according to a company statement.
The arbitrator denied Tesla's request for broad injunctive relief and rejected attempts to prohibit Matthews from selling its proprietary dry battery electrode technology and equipment. This marks the second arbitration ruling in Matthews' favor within twelve months related to the same dispute.
The interim decision includes a narrow injunction preventing Matthews from using certain parts in dry battery electrode machines. The company stated it already has replacement parts and does not expect the injunction to materially impact operations or sales.
The ruling provides clarity on Matthews' ownership of and rights to DBE technology that the company has developed over two decades. The arbitrator affirmed Matthews' right to develop, produce, market and sell its proprietary dry battery electrode solutions to third parties.
Matthews holds multiple patents protecting its intellectual property, including US Patent Nos. US12136727, US12237494, US12334534 and US12418017. The company plans to continue selling DBE equipment, including its multi-roll calendering machine.
The Pittsburgh-based company operates through Industrial Technologies and Memorialization segments, employing over 4,300 people across 15 countries. Matthews also maintains a significant investment in Propelis, a brand solutions business.
