NVIDIA invests in Thinking Machines Lab, plans AI chip deployment

NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) announced a multiyear strategic partnership with Thinking Machines Lab that includes an investment in the AI company and plans to deploy at least one gigawatt of NVIDIA Vera Rubin systems for frontier model training.

The partnership will support Thinking Machines' platforms that deliver customizable AI at scale, with deployment of the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform targeted for early next year, according to a press release statement. The collaboration also includes designing training and serving systems for NVIDIA architectures and expanding access to frontier AI and open models for enterprises, research institutions and the scientific community.

NVIDIA made what it described as a significant investment in Thinking Machines Lab to support the company's long-term growth, though specific financial terms were not disclosed.

"AI is the most powerful knowledge discovery instrument in human history," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. "Thinking Machines has brought together a world-class team to advance the frontier of AI."

Mira Murati, cofounder and CEO of Thinking Machines, said the partnership accelerates the company's capacity to build AI that people can customize. Murati previously served as chief technology officer at OpenAI.

The partnership aims to develop AI systems that are described as understandable, customizable and collaborative through advances in research, design and infrastructure at scale.
