Joby Aviation Inc. (NYSE: JOBY) announced it has been selected as a partner in multiple applications under the White House-backed Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Integration Pilot Program. The program will allow Joby to begin early operations in Arizona, Florida, Idaho, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Utah.
The eIPP program, established by Presidential Executive Order, enables Joby to deploy its technology ahead of FAA type certification. The program aims to accelerate regulatory coordination by bringing the FAA and Department of Transportation together with local authorities to streamline approvals for airspace integration and infrastructure development.
Joby will participate in five specific state programs. In Florida, the company will engage in a statewide effort including cargo delivery, passenger transportation, automation, and medical response operations. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey program will include air taxi passenger operations at the Manhattan heliport. Texas operations will connect Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and eventually Houston. North Carolina will focus on medical and regional operations, while Utah's program covers four states and will test various aircraft and operational concepts.
The selected applications will progress to an Other Transaction Authority stage where operational details will be finalized. Flights are expected to commence within 90 days of OTA contract finalization, according to the press release.
Joby's applications include its air taxi aircraft and Superpilot autonomous flight technology platform. The company's first FAA-conforming aircraft for Type Inspection Authorization is scheduled to fly shortly. Joby currently conducts piloted flights that take off vertically, transition to wingborne cruise, and return to vertical landing.
The Santa Cruz, California-based company recently announced plans to scale production to four aircraft per month in 2027, supported by expanded facilities in Marina, California and Dayton, Ohio.
