Brown & Brown Chief Legal Officer Robert Mathis dies

Brown & Brown Inc. (NYSE: BRO) announced the death of Chief Legal Officer Robert Mathis on January 26, 2026, according to a company statement.
Mathis served as the insurance brokerage firm's top legal executive. Powell Brown, president and chief executive officer, said in the statement that Mathis "helped guide our company through pivotal moments with a rare combination of legal excellence and genuine kindness."
The company said Eileen Akerson, chief risk, regulatory and compliance counsel, will serve as interim Chief Legal Officer.
Brown & Brown operates 700+ locations with more than 23,000 professionals and has been providing insurance brokerage services since 1939.
