Toyota Motor (NYSE: TM) announced Wednesday that the Japanese automaker is recalling 1 million vehicles in the United States due to a defect in the vehicles air bag deployment system.
This issue could potentially lead to malfunctioning Occupant Classification System sensors.
The sensors ensure that airbags do not deploy when a small adult or child is seated in the front seat.
According to the recall notice, a short circuit in a sensor may cause a malfunction in the car’s air bag safety system causing the vehicles air bags to fail and not deploy as designed.
The recall extends to vehicles from the 2020 to 2022 model years, encompassing multiple Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Lexus ES250, Highlander, and Sienna Hybrid models.
Shares of TM are down 1.06% in afternoon trading on Wednesday.
