Dollar General (DG) Tops Q1 EPS by 8c; Comps Rose Less than Expected

Dollar General (NYSE: DG) reported Q1 EPS of $1.03, $0.08 better than the analyst estimate of $0.95. Revenue for the quarter came in at $5.27 billion versus the consensus estimate of $5.28 billion.
Comps rose 2.2 percent, versus expectations of a 2.4 percent gain.
Merchandise Inventories
As of April 29, 2016, total merchandise inventories, at cost, were $3.07 billion compared to $2.84 billion as of May 1, 2015, an increase of two percent on a per-store basis.
