Harry Wayne Huizenga
Harry Wayne Huizenga is an entrepreneur. He focuses on finding service industries that are not meeting costumer needs and emphasizes costumer service. He has received many awards including the Horatio Alger Award in 1992. In addition, he has received Financial World Magazine’s “CEO of the Year” award five times and received Ernst & Young’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” award in 2004 and 2005. His net worth is about $2 billion.
Mr. Heuzinga is the founder of Waste Management (NYSE: WMI). He started with a single garbage truck in 1968 and grew Waste Management into the largest waste disposal company by 1983.
Mr. Huizenga also built Blockbuster Video (NYSE: BBI) into a multi-billion dollar business. He started with a handful of stores in 1987 and took the company public in 1989 growing the business from a $7 million business to a $4 billion global enterprise with more than 3,700 stores in 11 countries. In 1994, Viacom bought Blockbuster for $8.4 billion in stock.
Mr. Hueizinga also founded AutoNation (NYSE: AN), Extended Stay America, and Republic Services (NYSE: RSG).
