April 30, 2026 9:35 AM EDT

On April 22, 2026, the EuroNCAP VIEWINGCHINA was successfully held in Chongqing. Jointly hosted by Euro NCAP and China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CAERI), the event attracted more than 200 delegates from domestic and international automakers, technical institutions and component suppliers. Through a combination of static viewing, real-vehicle teardown and on-site exchanges, participants explored cutting-edge trends in global automotive safety technology and crash testing methodologies. Zhou Yulin, Party Secretary and Chairman of CAERI, had friendly discussions with Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP, at the event.

Building a Safety Ecosystem and Deepening International Cooperation

In his address, Michiel van Ratingen noted that the technology viewing event showcased the safety performance of Chinese export vehicles tested against Euro NCAP standards. Leveraging local partners such as CAERI, Euro NCAP has established localized testing capabilities in China, providing Chinese automakers with a direct platform to benchmark against the industry’s best safety practices.

Xu Wei, Director of the Standard & Index Center at CAERI, stated that CAERI and Euro NCAP have maintained close communication and practical cooperation since 2011. In 2019, CAERI became Euro NCAP’s first official authorized partner laboratory outside Europe, enabling Chinese automakers to complete Euro NCAP-compliant testing and certification domestically. The event serves as a bridge for Chinese automakers to align with European standards and expand globally efficiently. Going forward, CAERI will embrace international cooperation with an open attitude and promote greater alignment between Chinese testing protocols and international norms.

Subsequently, Euro NCAP presented an honorary monument to CAERI in recognition of CAERI’s co-hosting of the event and the long-standing friendly cooperation between the two parties.

Nearly 50 Test Vehicles on Display, Joint Research on Safety Technologies via Real-Vehicle Teardown

The event displayed nearly 50 test vehicles from both Euro NCAP and C-IASI (China Insurance Automotive Safety Index), covering representative models under major China-Europe automotive safety testing systems. The vehicles demonstrated real-world crash performance in terms of body structure, restraint systems and protection outcomes. Automotive safety engineers, technical experts and scholars from around the world viewed the crashed vehicles up close, participated in hands-on vehicle teardowns, and held in-depth discussions on body structure design, passive safety protection, crash energy transfer and key component performance.

The 2026 EuroNCAP VIEWINGCHINA  is not only an in-depth display and exchange of technologies, but also a microcosm of deepening cooperation in the China-Europe automotive safety sector. Through real-vehicle teardowns, structural benchmarking and face-to-face exchanges, the event has created a direct platform for global experts to address automotive safety challenges, while injecting new momentum into the integration and advancement of global automotive safety standards.

Looking ahead, CAERI will continue to partner with Euro NCAP and global partners, using safety technology as a bond to promote mutual trust in testing systems, joint capacity building and win-win industrial ecosystems, delivering more reliable and secure mobility experiences for consumers worldwide.
