Analysts at CreditSights said Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) has excess capital and may boost leverage by buying back stock or expanding its balance sheets, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The analysts commented "The company believes that it is currently overcapitalized, but that this is a prudent posture in the unsettled market conditions. Our sense was the company was laying the groundwork for a more normalized or higher leverage position which would be accomplished either through share buybacks or expanding its balance sheet."
