Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc. (NYSE: ARE) announced its board of directors authorized a new $500 million common stock repurchase program to replace the current authorization set to expire December 31, 2025.
Under the expiring program, Alexandria repurchased $258.2 million of its common stock, primarily in January 2025. The new program allows the company to purchase up to $500 million of outstanding shares until December 31, 2026, through open market transactions, negotiated deals, accelerated share repurchases, derivatives, or other methods.
The company stated the timing, price and amount of repurchases will be determined at its discretion based on factors including stock prices, available capital, economic conditions and other considerations. The program does not obligate Alexandria to repurchase any specific amount and may be suspended or discontinued.
Alexandria indicated it prefers to fund stock repurchases on a leverage-neutral basis using net cash from operating activities after dividends and proceeds from real estate dispositions or joint ventures through December 31, 2026.
The real estate investment trust focuses on life science properties and operates in locations including Greater Boston, San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Seattle, Maryland, Research Triangle and New York City.
