Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) is on watch following headlines that the service will be unblocked in China for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing beginning this week.
Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao reported on the information.
Over 20 global leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, Russia's Vladimir Putin, and Japan's Shinzo Abe, will be attending the event. APEC will take place on November 10th - 11th.
This would be the first time for China to loosen Internet restrictions for a major international event, said WantChinaTimes.com on Wednesday.
Facebook has been banned in China since 2009.
Shares of Facebook are down 0.9 percent.
