Final Credit Suisse CEO, Ulrich Korner, to leave UBS, FT reports May 6, 2024 12:50AM

(Reuters) - Ulrich Korner, the final CEO of Credit Suisse, is set to leave UBS in the coming weeks, the Financial Times reported on Monday.

UBS took over Credit Suisse in a government-backed rescue last year in what was the biggest merger of banks of systemic importance since the 2007-2009 financial crisis.

Korner, who was appointed CEO of Credit Suisse during turbulent times in 2022, joined the board of UBS after the takeover.

Philippines, US repel mock foreign invaders in annual military exercises May 6, 2024 12:48AM

LAOAG, Philippines (Reuters) - U.S. and Philippine armed forces fired missiles and artillery to thwart a simulated invasion in the Philippines' northern waters facing Taiwan on Monday, in a show of military force and strengthening ties as regional tensions rise.

Canada's WestJet reaches tentative deal with union to avoid work stoppage May 6, 2024 12:48AM

(Reuters) - Canadian airline WestJet Group has reached a tentative agreement with the union representing its maintenance engineers to avert work stoppage, the two parties said in a joint statement on Monday.

Israel military begins evacuating Palestinian civilians from Rafah, radio says May 6, 2024 12:35AM

JERUSALEM (Reuters) -Israel's armed forces have begun evacuating Palestinian civilians from Rafah ahead of a threatened assault on the southern Gazan city, an Israeli broadcaster said on Monday.

The military gave no immediate confirmation of the report on Army Radio.

According to the report, the evacuations were now focused on a few peripheral districts of Rafah, from which, it said, evacuees would be directed to tent cities in nearby Khan... (continue reading...)
