US State Department appoints Tommy Pigott as spokesperson

April 24 (Reuters) - ‌The U.S. ​State ​Department has appointed Tommy Pigott as its spokesperson, ‌the department said in a ⁠statement on Friday.

Pigott joined the department ‌and President Donald Trump's ‌administration in January 2025 as Trump began his second term ​in the White House, and had been serving as ⁠principal deputy spokesperson.

The position had been empty since ​Trump appointed Tammy Bruce as U.S. deputy representative to ​the United Nations.

"As spokesperson, ‌Pigott will speak directly to audiences in the ⁠United States and around the world on how, under the leadership ⁠of Secretary Marco Rubio, the State Department ​is advancing President Trump's foreign policy," the statement said.

The department said Pigott ‌has almost a decade of communications experience and previously ‌worked on Trump's 2024 ⁠election campaign and ‌at the ​Republican National Committee.
