Trump to ease ground beef import quotas for 90 days

WASHINGTON, Aug 21 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he would allow up to 300,000 metric tons of ground beef to be imported without impacting tariff quotas as part of a 90-day deal aimed at lowering prices as U.S. consumers struggle with grocery bills.
Trump, in a social media post, said he had "a commitment" that the meat would be sold at 25% below current market prices. He did not say which countries the beef was coming from or who had committed to the lower prices.
"This deal will reduce prices for Americans while giving space for our Great American Beef Herd to grow again," Trump said.
Representatives for the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment for more details on the agreement.
