(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his special envoy Steve Witkoff is in serious discussions with Russia about ending the war in Ukraine.
“Hopefully they’ll do the right thing,” Trump told reporters during an Oval Office meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
Trump said he did not think Russia would attack U.S. allies.
"It's not going to happen. We'll make sure it doesn't happen," he said.
Witkoff was due to meet with Putin on Thursday night, Politico reported, citing Russian state-owned news outlet Izvestia.
