MOGADISHU (Reuters) -A military helicopter crashed at an airport in Somalia's capital Mogadishu on Tuesday and was engulfed in flames, two staff from the airport told Reuters.

"We heard the blast and saw smoke and flames over a helicopter. The smoke entirely covered the helicopter. We do not know if it was landing or taking off," Farah Abdulle, one of the airport staff, told Reuters.

ABB expands robot line-up for China to tap mid-sized customers Jul 2, 2025 02:26AM

ZURICH (Reuters) -ABB is launching three new families of factory robots designed specially for China, the Swiss engineering company said on Wednesday, as it aims to benefit from rising demand for automation among mid-sized companies.

The machines will work in sectors like electronics, food and beverage, and metals, handling tasks like polishing and placing products around production lines, the Zurich-based company said.

KKR agrees to buy Spectris in $6.5 billion deal, tops Advent offer Jul 2, 2025 02:20AM

(Reuters) -Britain's Spectris has accepted an improved takeover offer from U.S. private equity firm KKR, valuing the scientific instruments maker at about 4.7 billion pounds ($6.46 billion), including debt, the companies said on Wednesday.

The offer values Spectris at 40 pounds per share, including dividends, and is a 6.3% premium to Advent's 37.63 pounds per share offer, marking Britain’s largest takeover deal so far this year.

Ukrainian aid projects wither as Western funding drops Jul 2, 2025 02:06AM

KHARKIV, Ukraine (Reuters) -Playing outdoors with his friend, Ukrainian teenager Nazar was badly injured when an explosive device blew up under his feet.

Despite his phone being shattered by the blast from what was apparently a discarded munition, he called an ambulance and spent months in hospital where he underwent multiple surgeries and doctors managed to save his leg.

Fiji says China military base not welcome as Pacific islands steer between superpowers Jul 2, 2025 01:57AM

SYDNEY (Reuters) -Fiji is opposed to China setting up a military base in the Pacific Islands, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said on Wednesday, adding that it did not need such a base to project power, as shown by an intercontinental ballistic missile test.

Strategically placed between the United States and Asia, the Pacific Islands are a focus of rivalry between Washington and Beijing for security ties.
