(Reuters) -Tesla's sales volume in Germany more than halved in July, the German road traffic agency KBA said on Tuesday, although sales of battery electric vehicles rose overall.
KBA said Tesla sold 1,110 cars in Germany in July, down by 55.1% from a year earlier. The number of Teslas sold in the January-July period dropped 57.8% to 10,000 units, compared with the same period last year.
By contrast, the total number of newly registered electric vehicles increased by 58% in July to 48,614 units, KBA added.
Registrations of new Tesla cars in several key European markets fell in July, despite a revamp to its signature Model Y, as the EV maker struggles with a backlash against CEO Elon Musk's political views, regulatory challenges and rising competition.
The German agency also said sales volume of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD jumped almost fivefold in July to 1,126 units and more than fivefold to 7,449 units since the beginning of the year.
