Itochu unit signs renewable energy agreement with Google in Japan May 23, 2024 11:19PM

TOKYO (Reuters) - Itochu said on Friday it signed a long-term power supply agreement with Google to help the search engine company achieve its renewable energy goals in Japan.

Itochu portfolio company Clean Energy Connect (CEC) will start service to Google in 2024 and will provide up to 72 megawatts of solar power to Google by 2026, the Japanese trading house said in a release.

NCAA agrees to 'road map' settlement for college athlete payments May 23, 2024 11:16PM

(Reuters) - The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) has agreed to allow member schools to share revenue with athletes directly and will pay nearly $2.8 billion in past damages, in a settlement resolving claims from players suing over their athletic service.

Kristin Johnson emerges as a leading candidate to be new US FDIC chair, Bloomberg News reports May 23, 2024 10:55PM

(Reuters) - Kristin Johnson, a Democratic commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, has emerged as a leading candidate to lead the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp (FDIC), Bloomberg News reported on Thursday citing a person familiar with the matter.

U.S., allies call for Taiwan to be allowed to take part in WHO meeting May 23, 2024 10:18PM

TAIPEI (Reuters) - The United States and several of its allies, including Britain, Canada, Australia, Germany and Japan, issued a joint statement on Friday calling on Taiwan to be allowed to take part in a key meeting of the World Health Organisation this month.

Taiwan is excluded from most international organisations because of objections by China, which considers the democratically governed island its territory.

Asian stocks fall, dollar rises as rate cut wagers waver May 23, 2024 10:16PM

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Asian stocks fell on Friday, while the dollar advanced as strong U.S. economic data bolstered the prospect of interest rates staying higher for longer and the Federal Reserve taking its time in cutting rates, keeping investors away from risky assets.
