Netanyahu agrees to reopen Gaza crossing for humanitarian aid, White House says May 6, 2024 11:59AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday that he would ensure the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and Gaza is open for humanitarian aid, the White House said.

Biden also reiterated his "clear position on Rafah" in a call with Netanyahu, the White House said in a statement.

Several people trapped after building collapses in South Africa May 6, 2024 11:57AM

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) -Several people were trapped after a multi-storey building under construction collapsed in the South African city of George, a spokesperson for the municipal government said on Monday.

There were no immediate reports of fatalities, while 22 had been rescued from the site, said a spokesperson for the municipality of George, a coastal city east for Cape Town.

Iraq executes 11 people convicted of terrorism, two security sources say May 6, 2024 11:46AM

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Eleven people were executed on Monday at a prison in the southern Iraqi city of Nassiriya after they were convicted and sentenced to death of terrorism crimes, two security sources have told Reuters.

Tesla lays off more staff in software, service teams, Electrek reports May 6, 2024 11:41AM

(Reuters) -Electric-vehicle maker Tesla has launched another round of layoffs including staff from the software, service and engineering departments, Electrek reported on Monday, citing emails and sources familiar with the matter.

The move comes after the Elon Musk-led automaker disbanded its EV charging department following Tesla's announcement last month that it was reducing its global workforce by more than 10%.

NY Fed survey finds Americans bracing for higher housing costs May 6, 2024 11:12AM

(Reuters) - Americans are once again bracing for another round of higher housing costs, the New York Federal Reserve said on Monday.

As part of its latest Survey of Consumer Expectations, the regional Fed bank found that respondents see higher near-term increases for both rent and home prices, although they do see some relief over the longer haul for home prices.
