Russian missile attack on Ukraine's Kharkiv kills one, injures 12

KYIV (Reuters) -At least one person was killed and 12 others, including an eight-month old baby, were injured on Tuesday when a Russian missile struck a residential area of Kharkiv in northeast Ukraine, Ukrainian officials said.

A medical clinic was among many buildings that suffered damage in the attack, which the governor of the Kharkiv region Oleh Syniehubov said had involved an Iskander ballistic missile.

"There are people under the rubble. Everything is being done to help them," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on the Telegram messaging app in his evening address.

The area hit by the missile is densely populated, city mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

Dozens of cars and residential buildings and some administrative buildings were damaged, Syniehubov said.

Russia has pummelled the city, which lies less than 30 kilometres (20 miles) from its border, since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
