OpenAI, Nvidia CEOs to speak at tech-focused G20 meeting

Aug 27 (Reuters) - Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are scheduled to appear at a tech-focused Group of 20 ministerial meeting in Raleigh, North Carolina, next week, according to a source familiar with the event details.
The U.S. plans to have SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Meta's Dina Powell McCormick and venture capitalist and former White House AI adviser David Sacks address the attendees live via video chat, a spokesperson for White House tech adviser Michael Kratsios said. Those speeches will be on Tuesday, according to the source familiar with the event details.
The U.S. will aim to convince G20 members to sign a non-binding agreement to take a light-touch approach to regulating AI, a White House official said. The agreement would ask members to avoid creating new regulatory bodies and to work with private companies to test emerging technologies, the official said.
"We look forward to robust discussions on smarter regulatory approaches, lower barriers to AI adoption and strong workforce development initiatives that will drive global economic prosperity," Kratsios said in a statement.
Altman will participate in a fireside chat with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, a company spokesperson said, adding the CEO will discuss upcoming advances in AI technology. A spokesperson for Huang declined to comment on his appearance.
The meeting is one of a series of gatherings taking place over the next few months leading up to the G20 leaders summit in Miami in December, led this year by the U.S. Technology and commerce officials from member countries will discuss “AI and other emerging technologies” at the Raleigh meeting, according to the event website.
