July 30 (Reuters) - NBCUniversal on Thursday named outsider Christopher Halpin as its next finance chief as it prepares to separate from Comcast's cable and broadband business into a standalone public company.
Comcast announced last month it would split off NBCUniversal and Sky, unwinding 15 years of consolidation as legacy media struggles against streaming rivals and industry dealmaking accelerates.
Here are some details:
• Halpin will join the company from People Incorporated, formerly IAC, where he served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
• Before that, he spent nearly a decade at the National Football League, most recently leading digital, sports betting, data and international expansion.
• NBCUniversal's current CFO Randy Culbertson will move into a new role at the company, to be announced in the coming weeks.
• Halpin will report to Mike Cavanagh, Comcast's co-CEO, who is set to become NBCUniversal's chief executive once the split is complete.
