More German firms willing to sacrifice features for national cloud, Bitkom says

BERLIN, June ‌17 (Reuters) - An ​increasing ​number of German businesses would opt for a national ‌cloud solution, even if it meant ⁠compromising on services, to avoid becoming ‌overly dependent on providers ‌from abroad, particularly from the U.S., a survey found on Wednesday.

• ​85% of the 603 companies surveyed by digital association Bitkom ⁠consider Germany too dependent on U.S. cloud providers, ​up from 78% a year ago

• Nearly 40% would now ​be willing to use ‌a cloud service that processes data exclusively within ⁠Germany, even if this entailed disadvantages, from 27% a year ago

• Almost ⁠two-thirds using cloud computing feel compelled by ​U.S. government policies to rethink their cloud strategies, compared with 50% a year ago

• "Germany ‌needs to break free from one-sided dependencies in the ‌cloud sector, particularly in light ⁠of the growing ‌importance of ​AI and data," said Bitkom President Ralf Wintergerst
