Culiacan, Mexico (Reuters) -The street vendor said the few tourists who still visit Culiacan no longer look for posters of drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman and accused drug kingpin Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, once the Mexican city’s most famous residents.

Gunmen kill 14 people returning from market in central Nigeria Jul 25, 2025 11:14AM

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Reuters) -Armed attackers ambushed a vehicle returning from a weekly market in the Bokkos area of central Nigeria, killing 14 passengers including women and infants, a local community leader said on Friday.

The attack occurred at about noon on Thursday as the vehicle was carrying people back from the popular Bokkos market in violence-plagued Plateau state.

Canada budget deficit over first two months of 2025/26 jumps to C$6.50 billion Jul 25, 2025 11:13AM

OTTAWA, July 25 (Reuters) - Canada recorded a sharply higher C$6.50 billion ($4.71 billion) budget deficit for the first two months of the 2025/26 fiscal year as government expenditures grew but revenues stalled, the finance ministry said on Friday.

By comparison, the deficit in the same period a year earlier had been just C$3.82 billion, it said in a statement.

EU, US could reach framework trade deal this weekend, EU officials say Jul 25, 2025 11:09AM

BRUSSELS (Reuters) -The European Union and the United States could reach a framework deal on trade this weekend, ending months of uncertainty for European industry, EU officials and diplomats said on Friday.

The deal would likely include a 15% baseline tariff on all EU goods entering the United States and probably a 50% tariff on European steel and aluminium, the officials and diplomats said.
