MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente spoke with the new U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio about security and migration issues in a first official contact between the two diplomats, Mexico's president told reporters on Wednesday.

The "very cordial" phone conversation took place on Tuesday, and marked Rubio's first call with a foreign minister, President Claudia Sheinbaum added, following his confirmation to the post in Washington earlier in the day.

The Cuban-American Rubio, the first Latino to serve in the senior role, is a fluent Spanish speaker.
