LyondellBasell says fire contained at Texas chemical plant

March 13 (Reuters) - LyondellBasell ‌said on ​Friday ​that a fire at its Bayport Choate chemical plant in Texas had been ‌contained and that all personnel were safe ⁠and accounted for.

The company said its on-site firefighting and ‌incident response team was ‌activated and that there were no injuries. It added that no off-site impact was expected and ​that "there is no need for action by the community."

Shares of the company were down ⁠2.2% at $72.70 in early trading.

LyondellBasell earlier said it had an operational ​issue at the site and people in the community might see bright flames or ​smoke.

The fire occurred on ‌Thursday at around 9 p.m. local time, the company said in an emailed ⁠response to Reuters, adding that it was receiving support from the Channel Industries Mutual Aid (CIMA), as well ⁠as firefighting teams from neighboring areas.

The Bayport Choate site ​produces propylene oxide, propylene glycol, propylene glycol ether, tertiary butyl alcohol, high-purity isobutylene, tertiary butyl hydroperoxide and ethyl tertiary-butyl ‌ether, according to the company's website.

It is the largest propylene oxide/tertiary butyl ‌alcohol site in the world based on production ⁠volume.
