WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier has been detained in Russia during recent private travel there, a U.S. official told Reuters on Monday.
The soldier's arrest was first reported by NBC News, which said Russian authorities accused the service member of stealing from a woman.
The U.S. official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. soldier had been based in South Korea.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Monday said it was reviewing a response by the Islamist Hamas militant group to a ceasefire and hostage release proposal, as it continued to press Israel to halt plans for a ground invasion of Rafah.
Hamas earlier said in a brief statement that its chief, Ismail Haniyeh, had informed Qatari and Egyptian mediators that the group accepted their proposal for a ceasefire.

OXFORD (Reuters) - British students set up pro-Palestinian protest encampments on Oxford and Cambridge universities' historic campuses on a cloudy spring Monday, in a show of solidarity with their American peers.
