GENEVA (Reuters) - The head of the World Health Organization on Friday urged countries to agree to an accord to help fight future pandemics as negotiations approach a deadline this month.
The new pact and a series of updates to existing rules on dealing with pandemics are intended to shore up the world's defenses against new pathogens after the COVID-19 pandemic killed millions of people.

(Reuters) - Rivian Automotive named Javier Varela its chief operating officer on Friday, bolstering its ranks with the Volvo veteran as the electric-vehicle startup expands its production facility even as it grapples with a slowdown in demand.
Volvo said earlier this week that Varela would leave the Swedish truck maker after an eight-year stint that saw him rise to the role of deputy CEO and COO in 2022.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury Department on Friday gave automakers additional flexibility on battery mineral requirements for electric vehicle tax credits on some crucial trace minerals from China, such as graphite.
