March 3 (Reuters) - ‌Governor ​Greg ​Abbott won the Texas Republican gubernatorial primary ‌on Tuesday as he seeks ⁠his fourth consecutive term ‌in office, U.S. media ‌projected.

Abbott, 68, a close ally of President Donald ​Trump, has dominated Texas politics since he was ⁠first elected governor in 2014. He ​has pushed an increasingly conservative agenda that has seen ​Texas, the most ‌populous GOP-led state, on the vanguard ⁠of anti-abortion laws before the Supreme Court knocked down ⁠Roe v. Wade, ban immigration "sanctuary cities" ​in 2017, create the country's biggest school voucher program and loosen ‌gun laws.

Recent polls show Abbott as a ‌strong favorite to ⁠win reelection in ‌November.
