German exports, industrial production rise more than expected

Aug ‌7 (Reuters) - German ​exports ​and industrial production rose more than expected in June, adding to signs that ‌Europe's largest economy gained momentum in the ⁠second quarter.

Exports increased by 0.9% in June compared with the ‌previous month, data from ‌the federal statistics office showed on Friday.

The result compared with a forecast 0.2% increase in ​a Reuters poll.

Imports rose by 4.4% on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis compared with ⁠May, the statistics office said.

In the first half of 2026, 3.7% ​more goods were exported from Germany and 4.4% more goods were imported into ​Germany than in the same ‌period of the previous year.

In June, calendar and seasonally adjusted exports to EU ⁠countries rose by 1.3% over the previous month, while exports to countries outside the EU increased by 0.3%.

Exports ⁠to the U.S. fell by 14.2% on the month.

German industrial ​production rose slightly in June by 0.2% compared with the previous month, the statistics office said in a ‌separate release.

Analysts polled by Reuters had predicted a 0.1% rise.

German industrial orders rose ‌3.1% in June but owed their jump to ⁠large-scale orders, data ‌showed on Thursday.
