Fire at western Iranian mini-refinery contained, Iran media says
July 10 (Reuters) - A fire that broke out on Friday at the Oxin Palayesh mini-refinery in Iran's western Lorestan province has been contained, Iran's semi-official YJC news agency reported, citing a local official.
The fire was confined to an area containing barrels of waste oil and did not spread to the refinery's facilities or storage tanks, the safety manager of Lorestan Industrial Estates Company was quoted by YJC as saying.
Iranian state media had earlier reported that fire broke out shortly after 5 p.m. local time and sent a thick column of smoke over part of the city of Poldokhtar, with firefighters initially struggling to contain the blaze because of its intensity and the presence of flammable materials.
State media cited Lorestan's deputy governor as saying no deaths or injuries had been reported and that the cause of the fire was under investigation.
Preliminary reports indicated that the fire likely started in the industrial unit's raw materials section, the deputy governor added.
