US soldier who fled to North Korea is free after sentencing Sep 20, 2024 08:48PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Army Private Travis King, who last year ran into North Korea and was taken into custody there, was sentenced on Friday to one year of confinement then freed based on time already served, his lawyer said in a statement.

He pleaded guilty to five charges, and the sentencing was held at Fort Bliss in Texas.

Brazil's government improves fiscal outlook for the year Sep 20, 2024 08:44PM

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil's government slightly reduced the expected primary deficit for the current fiscal year late on Friday, attributing the revision to improved revenues that more than offset the need for a new expenditure freeze to ensure compliance with a spending cap.

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Elon Musk-owned social media platform X has named a legal representative in Brazil, the firm's lawyers said on Friday, in a move that would address one of the demands imposed by Brazil's top court to allow the company to operate in the country.
