KYIV (Reuters) - Russia's overnight drone attack cut power to over 400,000 consumers in Ukraine's northeast region of Sumy on Monday, Ukraine's energy ministry said in a statement via the Telegram messaging app.

Work to restore power continued into the morning as 91 settlements remained without power in the region, the energy ministry and local authorities said on Telegram. Ukraine downed 12 out of 13 drones used by Russia in the attack.

(Reuters) - European shares climbed on Monday, with investor optimism over interest rate cuts globally back to the fore, while Spanish defence and technology firm Indra jumped following a strong first-quarter profit.

The pan-European STOXX 600 was up 0.2%, as of 0720 GMT, with energy leading sectoral gains as oil prices rose after Saudi Arabia hiked June crude prices for most regions and as prospects of a Gaza ceasefire deal appeared slim.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia on Monday said it would hold a military exercise that will include practice for the use of tactical nuclear weapons after what the defence ministry said were provocative threats from Western officials.

The defence ministry said the exercise was ordered by President Vladimir Putin and would test the readiness of non-strategic nuclear forces to perform combat missions.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Workers at Australian state-owned submarine builder ASC Ltd began on Monday a campaign of strikes for higher wages that could disrupt maintenance for Australia's submarines even as it prepares to build the nuclear-powered AUKUS fleet.
